Meet UKFT Member Antich Fine English Tailors, the only weave-to-wear bespoke suit maker in the UK. From weaving the cloth to the final detailing, the companies’ 100% wool suits are made from Huddersfield cloth, all in one location. Antich Fine English Tailors constitutes the retail and clothing division of its parent company, the family-owned business Antich and Sons. It offers ready-to-wear suits and tailored pieces and has consultation areas dedicated to their in-house bespoke and personal tailoring service.

Samantha Steer, Retail Brand Development Manager at Antich Fine English Tailors, said:

“Our group not only weaves apparel fabrics for leading fashion brands and manufactures technical dry fibre 3D composite fabrics and components, but we also make individually inspired clothing from start to finish all within our main Huddersfield headquarters.”

Since the companies’ creation in 1989, Antich and Sons has woven and shaped its identity in Huddersfield. The West Yorkshire town is now renowned for its thriving fine woollen and fine worsted cloth manufacturing industry. “Made in Huddersfield” has become a token of quality on a global scale. Samantha said:

“Brand Antich is truly made in Huddersfield; from conception of design by our Design Director right through to Michael’s final press and QC. We believe our garments travel further in our customer’s ownership than ours. From yarn to finished garment an Antich product will have travelled less then 10 miles. All this, against a headwind of globalised fashion brands having manufacturing points across many continents.”

The brand Antich’s products are made to last and are produced with traditional manufacturing techniques. “We apply manufacturing traditions and techniques that make sure your product lives its best and longest life with you – its new owner.  From no-limit manufacturing processes to hidden seam allowances your garment will grow with you,” said Samantha.

Sustainability is at the core of Antich’s philosophy. The tailors have put in place processes to keep their carbon emissions to a minimum. The only time the cloth leaves their factory is when it is being finished less than 5 miles away. Samantha explained:

“Every element and component of our products has been selected and produced with sustainability at its core; ensuring they are either recycled, recyclable, reusable or compostable. This is on top of every product created from fabric to garment being passionately produced and made by team Antich. At the same time, we are maintaining and improving ethical practices and sustainable standards throughout the whole business.”

Antich is passionate about manufacturing in the UK and aims to create, grow and maintain transparency in its supply chain. Ensuring the provenance of its products is at the centre of its work. Its business ethos is “people and product before profit”.

“Our production team is small; with less than 25 highly skilled women and men contributing to each garment through production and retail. This means we are all individually invested, allowing every customer (if they choose) to be given a unique customer experience,” said Samantha.
