Best of British Apparel Textiles: Hand & Lock
Hand & Lock has 250 years’ experience embellishing, embroidering and monogramming garments for the Royal family, the military and fashion houses including Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.
Hand & Lock pride themselves on the fact that the design methods and embroidery techniques have changed very little since 1767. A technique Hand & Lock are well known for is Goldwork embroidery, which is an ancient hand embroidery technique that uses metallic threads to add lustre and luxury.
In fashion instances, goldwork can be used as cuffs or collars or even just as elements.
In addition, Hand & Lock uses many of the same techniques today that they did in the 18th century including stumpwork, cutwork, applique, tambour beading, silk shading, and techniques for military and ceremonial work.
