Production Sewing Machinist Skills Boot Camp | Greater Manchester

31/01/2023

UKFT has worked closely with Greater Manchester employers, Salford City College Group and the Combined Authorities to create a Production Sewing Machinist Skills Bootcamp.

The industry in the UK regions is currently enjoying a revival. Manufacturers in fashion, interior design, medical textiles, automotive and other sectors are requiring products to be sources ethically to meet the sector’s increased demand. However, the current sewing machinist skill shortage has been identified as a barrier to growth. The Skills Boot Camp will help address this via funded delivery of the UKFT Production Sewing Machinist Course. This programme has been specifically designed to meet the demand for skilled sewing machinists. Click here for more information.

About the Boot Camp

The programme will take place both in person and remote learning. Salford City College Group has created a fully equipped training room, where candidates will learn how to use and control industrial machines. In addition, the remote learning will give them an understanding of how the industry works, quality standards, productions targets, fabrics, lean manufacturing techniques and employability skills.

Those who complete the programme will achieve a competency level which will enable them to hit the ground running when they join a company. Once employed, they can apply the foundation skills learnt to specific products and processes, as well as quickly achieve the quality and quantity standards required by industry.

Victoria Kielty, Salford City College Group’s Head of Centre for Pendleton Sixth Form College, said:

“Salford City College Group are delighted to be working in partnership with UK Fashion & Textiles Association to meet the skills needs of the sector with our new Production Sewing Machinist Skills Bootcamp. We are supporting employers in Greater Manchester with the recruitment of new staff and working with our learners to provide the foundations of a rewarding career. The partnership will contribute to our city’s distinguished legacy in the textiles industry.”
