Welsh Apprenticeship Provision

The Fashion & Textiles apprenticeship frameworks in Wales are published by the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) on a non-statutory basis prior to the designation of Issuing Authorities for Wales.

The Fashion and Textiles frameworks have been developed to address the skills shortages that the diverse sector experiences. The frameworks have been developed with various key stakeholders but at the heart of development were employers. The following frameworks have been developed by employers for employers and the frameworks will address the current skills gaps and shortages.

Foundation Apprenticeship in Fashion and Textiles – Level 2

You can study one of the following routes:

  • Textiles
  • Apparel

Apprenticeship in Fashion and Textiles – Level 3

You can study one of the following routes:

  • Textiles
  • Apparel
  • Tailoring

Higher Apprenticeship in Fashion & Textiles: Technical – Level 4

You can study one of the following routes:

  • Technical Textiles
  • Product Development and Sourcing

UKFT skills activity in Wales

  • As the Sector Skills Body for the Fashion & Textiles sector, UKFT has responsibility for the upkeep of National Occupational Standards (NOS), vocational qualifications and Modern Apprenticeship frameworks in Wales. We also register and certificate Modern Apprentices.
  • UKFT has recently submitted a bid to Welsh Government working with The National Museum of Wales to develop a ‘Heritage craft’ Welsh Woollen Industry weaving vocational qualification to preserve this historic artisan craft.
