31/03/2021

The Textile Centre of Excellence (TCoE) in Huddersfield offers flexible training at all levels from pre-entry traineeships to foundation degree equivalent programmes.

The Centre boasts unrivalled production facilities including:

  • a textile manufacturing workshop for commission warping and weaving operations;
  • two research and product-testing laboratories, including product authentication technology;
  • and a fully equipped clothing studio for bespoke suit manufacture.

The textile sector covers the textiles supply chain from the processing of raw materials to product manufacture. With an ageing workforce and growing demand for manufacturing in the UK employers are looking to apprenticeships to grow their businesses.

TCoE currently offers two of the new apprenticeship standards for Textile Manufacturing.

LEVEL 2 TEXTILE MANUFACTURING OPERATIVE

The Textile Manufacturing Operative apprenticeship standard has been specifically designed by the industry’s leading businesses and supported by the sector’s Livery companies to provide the next generation of textile employees with the skills they need in textile production and manufacturing. The programme covers the main requirements of working in textile production and includes elements of off-the-job learning, blended with on-the-job practical learning.

Who is this programme aimed at?

The course is ideal for learners who are new to textiles, such as recruits from school or college, as well as existing employees who have had little or no formal textile training. The programme is aimed at machine/task operator job roles such as carder, spinner, twister, weaver, winder, creeler, warper, dyer or finisher and will teach the basic principles of textiles, from understanding raw fibres, through to finished materials.

LEVEL 4 TEXTILE TECHNICAL SPECIALIST

The Textile Technical Specialist apprenticeship standard has been specifically designed by the industry’s leading businesses and supported by the sector’s Livery companies to provide the next generation of textile employees with the skills they need in textile production and manufacturing. The programme covers the main requirements of working as a technician and includes elements of off-the-job learning, blended with on-the-job practical learning.

Who is this programme aimed at?

This programme is for Weaving and Finishing Technicians, the course is ideal for learners who have completed the Level 2 Textile Manufacturing Operative Standard and are working towards being a Technician or those starting out in that role, or those working in that role with no formal qualifications.
