Acid violence: ASTi outlines acid handling responsibilities for fashion and textile businesses

18/03/2022

There are approximately 1,500 recorded acid attacks a year, however this is a vast underestimation. Many attacks are not recorded by relevant government authorities in most countries since acid attacks are not classified as a specific offence.

ASTi has launched a comprehensive report with recommendations for corporations to be aware of their obligations in relation to the handling of acid.

Many industries use acid in some form, but initially ASTi is working to onboard and advise businesses within the textiles and fashion industries about their responsibilities when it comes to ending the easy accessibility of acids in their supply chains.

The report contains key recommendations and a ‘Corporate Toolkit’ of best practices to assist corporates in maintaining the highest standards throughout their acid value chains. The report also provides key information on the legal landscape, relating specifically to mandatory and full version is available on request.
