Update: extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging

16/05/2023

Are you a business or organisation affected by Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Packaging?

The UK’s Packaging Waste regulations are changing this year, leading UK organisations that supply or import packaging to face new financial and administrative challenges. The main update is the introduction of EPR reporting, beginning in late 2023. Affected businesses will need to collect and report packaging data, such as the packaging type and material used.

Businesses who prepare for change now will respond better to the challenges ahead and will be able to mitigate their costs. Our understanding is that the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) will not issue an EPR data form.

Our Associate Member, Valpak has created a data form, to ensure that their members are fully prepared to navigate the complex data requirements under EPR. Want to find out more about the data reporting requirements in line with current government guidance and how the Valpak data submission process for EPR may look? UKFT members can email info@ukft.org to request access to Valpak’s webinar on data reporting for EPR.
