UKFT member BBCo Headwear is moving into the second phase of its reshoring strategy, which has seen the brand move its cap production from the Far East to the UK. The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise funds for more machinery to help increase manufacturing output of its adventure headwear made for the great outdoors. The company is currently cutting everything by hand so is looking for ways to streamline the manufacturing process to help manufacture more products.

Founder Annie Richmond explains…

“This year has been one of the craziest years on record for us. Not only did we have to steer our business through a pandemic but in the middle of the mayhem we chose to move our cap production from the Far East to the UK in a bid to reduce our carbon footprint and produce more sustainable and quality products. 

We’ve managed to start phase one of our cap manufacturing on quite a small scale here in the UK which has enabled us to tweak and refine some of the production processes already in place. Our products are all currently made by hand so to increase our efficiencies we need to invest in new machinery and training to enable us to work quicker and more efficiently as a business. 

Part of the reason why we chose to manufacture in the UK was to try and break the fast fashion cycle. Many brands are forced to buy in bulk which often leaves them with excess stock which they then need to sell off cheaply as they are unable to sell the products quick enough. This form of buying leads to inevitable waste and puts unnecessary pressure to over consume which ultimately has a negative impact on our planet.

By taking control of our manufacturing we can offer a leaner production process reducing over stocking and only producing what we know will sell which results in less waste and better quality products that last longer.

Our Holster cap below is just one of the products we were able to develop during phase one of our UK manufacturing project. During phase two our aim is to extend this range and offer a new design collection.

We believe our 5 panel caps are the best quality caps on the market, made from British Millerain wax cotton canvas. The peaks are made from recycled plastic meaning there is no virgin plastic used in the manufacturing of the caps.

The caps are built to withstand all elements, protecting you from the sun and keeping you dry, we construct headwear for those who love adventure and the outdoors and our aim is to keep you outside for longer enjoying the things you love most.”
