UKFT Rise – Get To Know Iseabal Hendry

07/09/2020

Meet Iseabal Hendry, founder of namesake brand, Iseabal Hendry – the leather accessories brand that is handwoven in Scotland using traditional techniques with a new, modern aesthetic.

Iseabal Hendry

Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, Iseabal launched her own brand in 2020 on Crowdfunder. Her work is inspired by traditional craft skills and techniques found locally, including basket making, roof thatching and carpentry techniques. Her upbringing in the Highlands and her experiences of traditional boatbuilding and of happy days spent in her father’s wood-workshop, continue to inspire and underpin her practice.

Iseabal says: “Every single bag is woven in the Highlands by hand (mine, of course!) and takes around 15 hours to make. It is a slow process that cannot be quickened with the help of a machine. All of my materials are sourced within Europe, which comes with a price but is something I passionately believe is worth paying for – not only for the exceptional quality and the lower carbon footprint but also for the added knowledge of my supply chain, and that those within it are getting a fair wage.”
