UKFT member Shaku creates ‘wearable works of art’ inspired by nature

UKFT member Shaku, a London-based brand of luxury scarves, homeware and accessories, creates ‘wearable works of art’ rooted in Founder and Creative Director Shakera Tayub’s love of nature. UKFT member Shaku is a London-based premium brand offering luxury scarves, homeware and accessories inspired by the natural world. Shakera Tayub, Shaku’s Founder and Creative Director, translates her love of nature into intricate and colourful floral designs. The Shaku team said:
“A skilled artist, her sketch books were soon filled with unique and beautifully detailed artworks of plants and flowers captured in incredible detail.
Easily forgotten on the stacked pages of a notebook, her idea for a collection of luxury scarves – wearable works of art – was born.”
Born in a family of dressmakers in Mumbai, Shakera learned hand embroidery from her mother and aunt, who worked as tailors.
“She left for England at nineteen years old to marry and raise her own family. She always harboured a creative side, a passion she fulfilled with drawing and painting in her spare time. For a long time, Shakera nursed a desire to bring her art to the world and it is together with her eldest daughter, Sonera that the dream has become a reality,” said the Shaku team.
Shaku’s collections celebrate femininity and craftsmanship, combining hand-drawn techniques and print technology. The Shaku team commented:
“Made with the finest quality threads and printed with premium dyes, the brand was a year in the making before coming to life in the prestigious factories of Como, Italy. With unparalleled attention to detail, the line-up boasts a range of designs rendered in silk, modal, cashmere, and georgette.”
Its scarf collection is available in limited editions, with a one-size-fits-all approach. Aligned with slow fashion, the brand creates products intended to be worn for decades to come, and that can be styled in various ways to help people express their personality. “My vision is to enrich the individual style of each wearer by expressing an aspect of their personality,” commented Shakera Tayub.
In addition to its silk, modal, cashmere and georgette scarves for women and men, the brand offers homeware such as scented candles, cushions and fine art prints; and small accessories including eye masks, scrunchies and barrettes.
