05/07/2022

UKFT’s CEO Adam Mansell chaired a session on extending the longevity of clothes and garment care at the recent Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF) Forum, held by the British Fashion Council on June 30, 2022 in London.

Adam was on the panel with Jalaj Hora, Vice President of Product Innovation and Consumer Creation at Nike; Natasha Franck, CEO of product cloud platform EON; and Sonia Thimmiah, head of sustainability brands and customer partnerships at global healthcare and consumer goods company RB, which owns Vanish.

The session explored how brands, retailers and consumers can increase the longevity of their clothes, ranging from design developments through to the new capabilities of washing machines, testing and using technology to connect with the end user.

The speakers also examined how garment longevity can play a significant role in limiting our sector’s impact on the environment, building on the wider aim of the forum to accelerate the transition to a circular fashion economy in the UK and beyond.

UKFT also sits on the Steering Committee of the Institute of Positive Fashion.

Adam is a leading expert on garment care with his close links to GINETEX, the international textile labelling organisation which owns the widely-used care symbols. The symbols are registered trademarks in over 80 countries, including the UK and all major European markets and UKFT is responsible for the use of the GINETEX symbols in the UK.

Companies must have a licence to use the care symbols and UKFT can provide a care labelling licence that allows the use of the symbols throughout the world. The symbols used in ISO 3758 are also the GINETEX symbols and are also covered by the trademarks. Find out more about UKFT’s labelling services here.
