UK Textiles at Première Vision Paris: February 22
An exciting group of UK textile companies are on show at leading textile show Première Vision in Paris this week, with additional firms showing at digital event Première Vision Digital.
Some of these dynamic companies are showcasing lighter weights in wool, cashmere, silk, linen and blends for SS23, a new range of luxury cashmere shirting and innovative fabrications with exquisite handle and drape, as well as original prints and eyecatching embroidery.
Many are unveiling a new sustainable focus for SS23, such as silk specialist Henry Bertrand. The company has collaborated more closely with its team of creatives to adapt some of its firm’s standard qualities, using different yarns; finding qualities that can be woven in smaller quantities or custom colours to avoid wastage on production runs. New for this season, Henry Bertrand is offering even more flexibility with a new bespoke dyeing service with low minimums, thus offering even more choice with less waste.
Linton Tweeds produces luxurious, fancy tweed fabrics in innovative woven structures, for fashion houses around the world. All fabrics have been woven on site at the mill in Carlisle since 1912. Working closely with customers, Linton is continuing to move towards greater sustainability within its fabrics and manufacturing. Signature look tweeds are now incorporating more GOTS, GRS and FSC yarns.
Others are exploring lighter weights, including Joshua Ellis, which was initially established in 1767 to produce the heavier woollen cloths necessary for warmth and durability. Today, modern machinery and innovation combine with age-old manufacturing techniques to produce a stunning portfolio of luxurious fabric and accessories perfect for the discerning customer. To meet the move to more flexible and hybrid working, Joshua Ellis Spring 2023 offers 100% Cashmere lightweight luxe shirting fabrics starting at a super fine 200gm in checks and plains, to stay smart casual for those virtual business meetings.
Established in 1837, MOON now have over 180 years of proud British manufacturing and design heritage to their name. As one of a select few in the UK who can perform all processes at a single site, they boast remarkable versatility and the ability to control each process to meet their exacting standards, resulting in characterful, authentic fabrics suitable for a wide variety of uses. MOON’s Spring Summer stock service collection features a variety of all-season weight fabrics including luxurious blends of wool, cotton and cashmere, quintessentially British blazer stripes and timeless designs in wool linen or pure worsted wool.
Bella Tela, a UK-based company which designs and manufactures indulgent embroideries, luxurious 3D florals, artisan silk hand paints, and glistening hand-beaded embellishments, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The combination of widely sourced, exciting materials, combined with classic embroidery and contemporary manufacturing techniques, results in an intricately detailed offering.
Finally, bright colours will be capturing attention from companies such as William Halstead, a well-known British name for worsted fabrics, renowned as the ‘Master of Mohair’ amongst the leading fashion houses of the world, international high-class tailors and cloth merchants. As an innovative leading cloth maker, William Halstead takes responsibility in its craft to continually delight and intrigue by presenting new combinations of yarn, weave and colour. Spring Summer 2023 is no exception with the launch of new colours for the season creating a vibrant collection of patterns woven from the world’s finest wool and mohair blends.
Laurent Garigue is extremely proud of its British heritage and most of the firm’s cloth is woven, dyed and finished in Yorkshire and Scotland. The Garigue name has been synonymous with high fashion fabrics since 1947 when Laurent’s father started selling to Cristobal Balenciaga and Monsieur Dior in Paris. Their firms are still clients today. The company tries to present artistically beautiful collections that are not just born out of commercial blandness.
